Ffdshow is a media decoder that allows you to decode a video stream in MPEG-4 ASP.
The first version of the program was released back in 2002. The developer of the DivX and XviD decoder was Milan Cutka. After his withdrawal from further work on the program, the ffdshow-tryouts project took over the support.
Features of ffdshow
This decoder has almost no analogues when it comes to the functionality and breadth of supported formats.
Users discovering ffdshow for the first time sometimes wonder what formats are best decoded by this program. The answer to this question can only be obtained by experimenting with the decoder, enabling/disabling support for different formats.
During installation, the user is prompted to choose which audio and video formats ffdshow will decode. You should also choose which additional file processing the program will do.
There is no integrated media player in ffdshow, but any media player that supports the DirectShow interface can use the decoder automatically.
