2 Player Games - Pastimes v.2.7

2 Player Games - Pastimes is a collection of short arcade mini-games for Android, designed primarily for two players to compete against each other on a single device. The app turns your smartphone or tablet into a small playing area: you can spend one round playing air hockey, and another on a board game or a reaction duel. Simple rules mean you can start a match without much of a learning curve, and the quick games are perfect for a journey, a break or a friendly challenge.

Features of 2 Player Games - Pastimes

• The local two-player mode uses a single screen, so opponents can play a match without an internet connection or a second phone.
• The collection features various formats of short challenges: from sports mini-games to board games and arcade-style reaction-time challenges.
• Controls are kept simple with intuitive taps and swipes, meaning the rules of most games can be learnt straight away during the first round.
• Quick mode switching helps prevent you from getting stuck in one scenario: once a round is over, you can immediately choose another challenge from the overall selection.
• These compact matches are ideal for two-player games on a small screen, when playing through a full-length game isn’t practical.

Advantages of the game

• The main advantage of 2 Player Games – Pastimes is the ability to play as a pair on a single Android device without the need for a separate console or two accounts.
• The short rounds don’t take long: it’s handy to launch the app for a few rounds and then close it without losing any long-term progress.
• Different types of mini-games encourage lively competition: victory depends on tap accuracy or reaction speed, rather than on the gradual accumulation of resources.
• The barrier to entry remains low even for those who rarely play on their smartphones: in most modes, you only need to get to grips with a few controls.
• The format is ideal for social gatherings and family leisure, as the outcome of each round is determined immediately and does not require learning complex rules.

Disadvantages of 2 Player Games – Pastimes

• To play as a pair, you need a single device with a sufficiently wide screen: on a compact smartphone, the opponents’ fingers may obstruct the playing area.
• The mini-games are designed for short sessions, so after a few rounds the selection of modes may seem repetitive to those looking for a more in-depth experience.
• The competitive format really comes into its own when a second player is involved; when played alone, the app does not offer the same variety of scenarios as a full-fledged story-driven game.
• The outcome of some rounds depends heavily on reaction speed and tap accuracy, which can make the competition less comfortable for players with varying levels of skill.
• The free distribution model may include adverts, which can sometimes make the transition between rounds feel less seamless.
