Light-It Up is a fast-paced arcade game for Android in which a silhouette character jumps between neon shapes, lights them up by touching them, and tries not to fall into the darkness. Controls are based on short taps: the character changes direction whilst in mid-air, pushes off from platforms and charts a path through the level, where a mistake often starts with a single misplaced jump.
Features of Light-It Up
- Jumps are combined with the character’s spins: tapping at the right moment helps you turn towards the next shape and set yourself up for a safe landing.
- When touched, the geometric platforms light up in bright colours, so progressing through the level gradually transforms the dark space into a glowing path.
- The levels require you to take into account the position of the shapes and the distance between them: some platforms are ideal for a series of bounces, whilst others leave little room for correcting a mistake.
- Stars, positioned in places that cannot be reached with a normal jump without a precise rotation, add an extra element of interest.
- The minimalist design does not clutter the screen with details: the character, active platforms and dangerous sections of the route are clearly distinguishable against the background.
Advantages of the game
- Getting to grips with the game starts with a simple action, but successfully completing a level depends on a feel for the moment: turning too early will send the character past the platform.
- The highlighting of shapes provides clear feedback after every successful touch and helps you see which part of the route has already been completed.
- Short gameplay sessions are ideal for a quick few minutes’ play, for example whilst travelling or during a short break.
- The neon aesthetic complements the rhythm of the jumps well: the contrast between the dark background and the flashing figures makes even familiar sections stand out.
- It’s easy to tell when you’ve made a mistake from the result – the character either didn’t reach the platform or chose the wrong trajectory, so retrying feels natural.
Drawbacks of the arcade game
- The heavy reliance on precise tapping can quickly become tiresome: if you miss, the character falls, and repeating a section requires you to go through the previous jumps again.
- On a compact screen, it is difficult to assess the trajectory in advance if the next platform is positioned to the side or significantly higher than the current one.
- Collecting stars often forces you to choose a riskier route rather than completing the level directly.
- The minimalist presentation leaves little variety in the gameplay: most of the time is spent jumping, turning and finding the right moment to land.
