Adobe Shockwave Player is a multimedia platform that includes the integrated Shockwave Player and the tool that creates shockwave content, Adobe Director. Available for download, the new version of the platform is designed to extend the multimedia capabilities of traditional web browsers.
The scope of the Adobe Shockwave Player:
- 3D vector animation;
- video playback;
- interactive web applications;
- games.
The platform can be connected to popular browsers as a plug-in. Almost all modern browsers are supported: Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome, Opera browser, Safari and others.
Shockwave Player is an extremely popular platform, installed on more than 450 million computers worldwide (data from Adobe).
The Shockwave file has the format .DCR, curiously, the same extension as the files included in Delphi projects, as well as Kodak image files.
Advantages and disadvantages of Adobe Shockwave Player
Although Shockwave technology was originally developed for the Internet, it is not without some limitations:
- The web version lacks support for some useful mouse functions;
- it does not support printing from the project;
- API functions do not work;
- it is possible to import MP3 files into Adobe Director, but it is not possible to pack the project to work on-line (the restriction can be bypassed by converting them into ShockWave Audio).
