Pidgin is a messenger, formerly known as Gaim; a modular client that allows instant messaging. It supports the most popular protocols.
Pidgin features
- ability to work with several accounts at once, so there is no need to constantly switch between the respective clients that have a different interface and functionality;
- adding comments to users in your contact list and saving them;
- ability to combine multiple contacts into a single meta-contact;
- cross-platform (works on multiple operating systems);

- bold or italic font in messages (simple font formatting is possible);
- Auto addition of new tabs in the current window to save screen space;
- unlimited number of tabs that can be added to the conversation window (if there are a lot of them, you will be able to scroll);
- formation of tabs from different contact lists (for example, you can chat with users from Google Talk and MSN in different tabs of the same window);
- you can find out the versions of messengers used by interlocutors, and whether they support file exchange;
- it is possible to distinguish between blocking and offline.
Thus, you can easily start communicating with several friends using different messengers at once if you add all your contacts to the application.
