MyPublicWiFi is a program that allows you to quickly set up an access point for handing out any Internet connection when you have a PC or laptop with a built-in wireless module. The firewall has the ability to restrict the use of P2P connections so that users can only use the available connection for surfing or viewing media content.
MyPublicWiFi can use your laptop or computer as a wireless router. This can also be done using standard operating system tools, but such a setup is a very complicated and time-consuming process.
The main features of MyPublicWiFi
The main advantage of this utility is that you can set up a wireless internet connection with your laptop with just a few mouse clicks.
It only works if you run it as an administrator. The MyPublicWiFi interface is split into just three tabs:
- Managment: the firewall setting allows you to prohibit network users from using file exchangers or torrents, so as not to clog up the channel with downloads. In the same tab you can check the "autoload" box so that the program will be launched together with the startup of the operating system;
- Clients: here you can monitor the list of the clients connected to the network;
- Setting: selecting the settings of the future wireless network (entering a password, assigning a name). From the list of available connections, select the one that has direct access to the global network. This can be an available Wi-Fi connection, which can be shared with a laptop, or a local connection. You can also give out 3G or 4G connections if your computer supports them.
Disadvantages of MyPublicWiFi
- One of the most significant disadvantages is the inability to use some laptops or PCs to create an access point. The developers attribute this to the peculiarities of operation and configuration of some network cards that are installed in the laptop.
- The program receives regular updates, so the list of supported equipment is expanding.
- Another inconvenience is the need to constantly run the program as an administrator.
- In MyPublicWiFi you can select one of the available languages, but the localization does not include English yet.
