Midnight Commander is a text-based file manager, part of the GNU project. It supports file, Samba and FTP remote systems, and is easy to work with various images and archives (use any archiver to decompress). Can work equally efficiently in various system emulators, as well as in the console.
It has a built-in text editor with syntax highlighting, and the ease of use is enhanced with hotkeys that you can customize to your liking.
